The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) today voted to approve a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility for the South Mountain Transmission Project (SMT). The project will support anticipated growth and development along Loop 202 in the Laveen area and strengthen SRP’s overall transmission system reliability.
The City of Phoenix is planning for future development in Laveen, which could include a mix of land uses that include retail offerings, hospitals, hotels and resorts, residential areas, new businesses and an industrial and tech park.
“The South Mountain Transmission project represents an important milestone for the Laveen community, and we appreciate the consideration of the ACC to approve this plan,” said Rick Hernandez, Power System Program Manager, SRP. “The project will help SRP support the Valley’s economic and residential growth with affordable, reliable and sustainable power.”
SRP had a robust outreach process that included open houses, emails, postcards, stakeholder meetings, project website, and social media ads in an effort to gather public feedback on the SMT Project and proposed routes. The input received throughout the public process was analyzed and helped to inform SRP’s preferred routes.
Progress updates about the project can be found at www.srp.net/SMT, in Spanish at srp.net/smtspanish, call 602-236-2872 or email 2872line@srpnet.com. |
