WHY THE 5 C’s?
Are you familiar with the “5 C’s” of Arizona? Copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, and climate were the foundation of our state’s early economy and are all represented on the official state seal. From April 21st to June 30th, we will highlight each of the “5 C’s” of Arizona and explore how our own Gilbert history is connected to these essential elements.
MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY
HD SOUTH will sponsor a morning of remembrance on Memorial Day. The event will take place on Monday, May 26th from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. at Town Hall (50 E. Civic Center Drive).  The event is a collaboration between HD SOUTH, the Town of Gilbert, the Veteran’s Advisory Board, and American Legion Post 39. The event will include a flag and wreath ceremony, the battlefield cross, the POW/MIA table, and remarks from local Gilbert dignitaries, including Mayor Scott Anderson.

FAMILY HISTORY-FAMILY TRADITIONS, RITUALS, AND CUSTOMS
May 29, 2025 | 6:30 – 8:00pm   Join ASU professor emeritus Duane Roen, founding coordinator for the Project for Writing and Recording Family History in the College of Integrative Science and Arts, for a unique family history workshop. Families have traditions, rituals, and customs. Some of them are centuries old—e.g., eating holiday foods that were eaten in our ancestors’ home counties. Some are relatively recent—e.g., taking a photo on the first day of school each year. Sometimes we know the origins of our traditions, rituals, and customs; sometimes we may not ever realize that something is a tradition. In this workshop, we will write about family traditions that are important to us or ones that we no longer observe, (so please bring paper and a pen or a laptop.) Ages 12 and up. Registration required. Cost: FREE
