Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Celebrates Record-Breaking Fiscal Year and Major Infrastructure Developments

The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) is proud to announce a highly successful Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), marked by record achievements in both passenger traffic and infrastructure development. The airport has made substantial progress in improving its facilities and attracting significant private investment, positioning it as a key economic driver for the region.

Key Highlights from FY24:

  • Passenger Milestone: The airport welcomed 1,839,977 passengers, achieving the second-highest year of passenger activity in its history.
  • New Airline Services: Allegiant introduced nonstop flights to Portland, OR, while Sun Country Airlines resumed its winter services to Minneapolis, MN.
  • Record Summer Travel: The airport recorded its busiest summer season to date, with a 9% increase in passenger numbers from May to August 2024.
  • Private Development: Over 1 million square feet of private development, including the construction of XNRGY Climate Systems’ 275,000 sq. ft. U.S. headquarters and Virgin Galactic's 115,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, is well underway, generating thousands of jobs and boosting the local economy.

Major Infrastructure Developments: Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport continued its focus on modernizing and expanding its facilities to enhance passenger experience and operational capacity. Key projects completed during FY24 include:

  • A 30,000 sq. ft. passenger terminal addition with five new gates.
  • A new enclosed terminal connector walkway.
  • The resurfacing of Runway 12C-30C, with new LED lighting for enhanced energy efficiency.
  • Expansion of the airport’s fuel farm and completion of the Alpha Apron Phase IV project.

The airport also saw significant progress in long-term planning with the completion of the Gateway Tomorrow East Side Terminal Planning Study, setting the stage for future growth.

Commitment to Excellence: PMGAA continues to uphold its commitment to safety and operational excellence, with successful completions of the FAA Part 139 Certification Inspection and TSA Security Inspection, both with no findings. The authority also expanded its customer service initiatives, including the A.V.I.A.T.O.R. Terminal Volunteer Program and enhanced customer service training for all employees.
