August is Teen Mental Health Month. In 2021, 31% of teens self reported they suffered from a mental health issue (depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts) (Pew Research). 49,000-50,000 people die by suicide in the U.S. every year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10-14 and the third in teens ages 15-17. (CDC) It is important to learn some basics about teen mental health first aid.
