That's a Wrap on AZTV 7's Hometown Heroes Toy Drive
THE 6TH ANNUAL HOMETOWN HEROES TOY DRIVE WAS BIGGER THAN EVER IN HELPING BRING HOLIDAY CHEER TO ARIZONA FAMILIES IN NEED.January 12, 2022 – (Phoenix/Prescott) Channel 7, is overjoyed to announce its 6th Annual Hometown Heroes Toy Drive was a tremendous success in bringing smiles to hundreds of children and families across Arizona this past holiday season. Even with the anticipation of supply-chain challenges, the generosity of our sponsors and the community helped us to ensure Arizona’s most vulnerable children were not forgotten.
Thanks to our partnerships with Desert Financial Credit Union, Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Company, and Valley of the Sun United Way along with other amazing local businesses and organizations in Metro Phoenix and Northern Arizona including Carrington College, Mattamy Homes, and PEPSICO, as well as our generous viewers, we were able to collect over 5,000 toys and other items to give children, and families in need, a Christmas they will never forget.
Through the help of our non-profit partners: Firefighter Angel Foundation, Helping Hands For Freedom, Hope Women’s Center, Harvest Compassion Centers and various public schools, we were able to identify and distribute toys and gifts to more than 1,200 families. Over 100 were families of our fallen, wounded and deployed military service members. Among the Christmas gifts were toys, clothing and grocery gift cards.
AZTV Channel 7 is grateful to the hundreds of individuals who volunteered and participated in over 20 events to help create a magical and memorable experience for families to celebrate the holidays.
“When we talked with volunteers and sponsors at the events and thanked them for participating, many gave the most heartwarming response… ‘Thank you for asking.’ It reminds me that people really want to help. Sometimes, all they need is a starting place – an invitation.”
-Lynn Londen, Owner, AZTV Channel 7
Our amazing sponsors and partners shared their stories of why this is so near and dear to their hearts, in special features on the Arizona Daily Mix with Brad Perry.
“At DFCU, we take great pride in the fact that our employees put in over 12,000 volunteer hours this past year. Community giving has a lot to do with our success. And, participating in the Hometown Heroes Toy Drive, allowed us to help kids and families have a great holiday season… it really warmed our hearts.”
-Jeff Meshey, President & CEO, DFCU
“I am amazed at the outpouring of love, compassion and enthusiasm our partners have to helping families in the community. They genuinely care for the well-being of those in need and strive to make a positive impact in our state. For them, Christmas is a year- round happening.”
