What product or service do you offer?
We have over 70 local tutors who provide one-to-one, in-home or virtual tutoring to our valley's students. Our team has diverse skills and backgrounds and we can support most ages and subjects from Pre-K through adult learners, including test preparation such as SAT, ACT and GED.

What makes your business different, competitive, or unique?
We do not require minimum hours or duration of sessions, and we offer cognitive and academic testing up front so we aren't guessing how are students learn; we use the data. We also spend as much time as is needed on the phone or over Zoom with anyone who inquires about our services, and we especially like speaking to the student directly to hear firsthand what struggles they have, and what they are looking for in academic support.

If we don't get the match right the first time, we replace the tutor! The right match is crucial to success, and having a large and diverse team makes this possible.

What is the nicest thing a customer has ever said about your business?
"Tutor Doctor has been amazing for my daughter. Her fluency has improved and it's great to see her correct herself on mistakes when she is reading now. Her tutor, MaryLee, has been such a great match and has built up her confidence so much. Not only does she work great with my daughter, she is so understanding and caring. My daughter has always received reading intervention, but adding in Tutor Doctor has made a big difference. Kimberly is amazing as well. She was so helpful when signing up and answered any questions-and I had a lot of them. Tutor Doctor is full of great people!! It was the best decision to go with Tutor Doctor! I highly recommend them!

How has your business found value in your membership with the Gilbert Chamber?
Through the Chamber I have received support of my business through Social Media, a ribbon cutting and of course the networking events that bring us altogether to meet as individuals. Through partnerships formed through the Chamber events directly, I have gained a tutor on our team and a wonderful introduction to a local neighborhood publication where we have many students.

What motivates you professionally?
The hope that through my interactions with people, someone has gained a new way of thinking or doing something that will create a lasting improvement in their lives.

What do you consider to be your greatest success?
Leaving professional leadership to start a business. I am modeling hard work, perseverance and presence for my kids.

Who do you look up to or admire?
My friend Meg. She lost both of her parents by the time she was 22, married early and was then incarcerated for 2 years due to some of his dealings on their property - after 9 more years finally got her ruling overturned!

She missed out on the first 2 years of her first son's life, had limited options for employment for almost a decade, and had to live off of state subsidies many of those years. But, she went back to school to get her Bachelors with a 4.0 GPA and is now pursuing a Doctorate of Divinity. This woman has the resilience I wish upon anyone and a heart bigger than I can imagine.

When you're not working, where in Gilbert do you spend your time?
I love GrindTime coffee which is family-owned and operated and also Four Silos for some great house drafts. I like the atmosphere anywhere in downtown Gilbert, I can't have a bad day swinging by Joe's or walking around water tower plaza!
