Elaine Kessler Photography
What is your name?
Time in business:
What product or service do you offer?
Elaine Kessler Photography provides exceptional photography services to people and organizations aiming to increase their revenue, referrals, and/or recognition. EKP creates headshots, branding and marketing images (for entrepreneurs, organizations of all sizes, and municipalities) boudoir sessions, family sessions, high school/college senior sessions, fitness photography, event photography, and many types of various portraits. We offer styling services and guidance. We can shoot on-location or in our Gilbert studio (with multiple themed rooms including a lounge, conference area, and living room) as well as in the adjoining shaded courtyard with a fountain, trees, and lovely Spanish styled white architecture. We produce high quality, high resolution digital images for all manner of publication.
What makes your business different, competitive, or unique?
EKP's motto is "Capturing your present, creating your future" because I believe that if I know what it is you want to manifest for your future we can begin to do that in the images that we create today. To that end, I coach with clarity, precision, and speed. I realize most people don't love having their portraits taken so I have a system of shooting that is quick, effective, and FUN.
What is the nicest thing a customer has ever said about your business?
EKP has received rave reviews but kids do not lie: 6 year old C did NOT want to do a photo shoot. The last thing C wanted to do was take my coaching or pose for photos. As we marched to each spot I shared with him the interesting tidbits about the murals and art in the heritage district. I coached the family into natural but fun poses and at the end of the session, C was stunned the time had gone so fast. He said, "But I don't want family photos to be over - I want more time with her!" This was one of the best reviews EKP has received.
How has your business found value in your membership with the Gilbert Chamber?
Definitely. The Gilbert Chamber was THE thing that made all the difference for my business. I was able to get involved with the community and grow my business organically, with ease and success, as a result. I am indebted to the Gilbert Chamber for helping me find my voice and share my passion for business.
What motivates you professionally?
I am motivated by quality time with people. I live for great experiences and great conversations.
What do you consider to be your greatest success?
Sleeping peacefully. I strive to live a life that is vibrant and good. Good sleep is my reward for living a good life.
Who do you look up to or admire?
Without a doubt, the first person that comes to mind is Cherríe Moraga, Chicana playwright and activist. One of my favorite quotes by her is: “I am a woman with a foot in both worlds; and I refuse the split. I feel the necessity for dialogue.”
I have found inspiration in the stories of mixed race and mixed heritage artists and, like them, I have learned to navigate my mixed-ness in a world ofttimes hostile to the ambiguous. A purveyor of perspective, I seek to learn, grow, share, and ultimately lift up that which has been glossed over, dismissed, or diminished. As an artist, educator, writer, parent, partner, and peer, it is both my duty and privilege to do so.
When you're not working, where in Gilbert do you spend your time?
Walking at Freestone Park, noshing at Postino, watching the magnificent sunrises and sunsets from my backyard.
