#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations and communities in countries around the world. Millions of people have come together to encourage philanthropy and champion generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28th, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday means even more when we come together and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
In Arizona there continues to be a growing homeless crisis. Located on 20 acres in Southeast Mesa, House of Refuge is a faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit offering transitional housing & supportive services to homeless families in our 88 two-bedroom homes. Since 1986, they have served over 7000 individuals to overcome homelessness, become self-sufficient, and move toward permanent housing. The community is what makes their program so unique and successful. House of Refuge is able to create possibilities in community toward self-sufficiency. They are privately funded, so it is through the generosity of their donors that this much needed organization exists right here in Arizona.
“The difference between hopeless and having hope. Without this community, this program, the volunteers and staff … without House of Refuge, I would feel hopeless. If it were not for this place, I would not be able to do this.”                                    -House of Refuge Graduate
